The American Heart Association is proud to be voted first place in the Health and Wellness category and honored as one of five charities to receive $200,000 in funding from American Express through its Members Project program.
The American Heart Association is the nation's authority in CPR training, teaching millions of families, educators and healthcare professionals how to save lives in homes, workplaces and medical facilities. The association funds breakthrough pediatric heart treatment for the thousands of babies born each year with heart defects, as well as national education and prevention programs targeting childhood obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and many other conditions.
"The American Heart Association will use these funds to continue its passionate and relentless fight against the nation's No. 1 and No. 3 killers heart disease and stroke," said Ralph Sacco, MD, American Heart Association president. "As the country's oldest and largest volunteer organization dedicated to fighting these diseases that strike millions of Americans, the American Heart Association saves lives through innovative research and far-reaching educational programs."
Members Project is a partnership between the credit card conglomerate, American Express, and TakePart, a social action network. Members Project encourages everyone, including non-American Express® Cardmembers, to take his or her step and help support worthy causes and charitable organizations.
Those who've joined Members Project can vote for one charity every week from a list of up to 50 charities in five different categories: Arts & Culture; Environment & Wildlife; Health & Welfare; Education; and Community Development. Every three months, the votes are counted and the winners in each category in that round of voting will get $200,000 each in funding from American Express. Participants can also get involved by volunteering or donating. Members Project provides the platform to help make taking action easier with organizations like the American Heart Association.
